ABOUT ME
Nat Marum (Wales, UK) is an emerging photojournalist and fine art photographer, currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Photography at the University of Brighton. Her practice seeks to challenge conventional perceptions to raise awareness and evoke political discourse within both photojournalism and fine art photography.
Nat Marum’s photography explores ‘the female’ experience through self-portraiture. Her work, Virgin, Fallen, Sinner, Saint, challenges the dominant European, cultural hegemony that both omits and exhorts the female form. The ‘female nude’ in the form of the European oil painting; synonomous with the ‘classical aesthetic’, was placed within of the interior of the church. This was with the aim of evoking questions about the European, dominant culture, in relation to the societal expectations of women.
Furthermore, Nat Marum’s work reflects the realities of life, in a surreal and compelling way. Her images provide a visual transcription of the ‘human experience’ that moves beyond the frame, thus fostering a familarity and connection between subject and viewer.
